Configuring Cherokee

If you are reading this post, odds are you have previously read about Cherokee. I've written many times about how easy and straightforward the Cherokee configuration is, and how simple it is to configure other third party web applications on Cherokee.

In this occasion, I'd like to draw your attention to a few videos on how to configure some of the most widespread web applications and frameworks on Cherokee:

Most of the videos are less than 2 minutes long - including the opening and the ending. That should give you an idea on how plain and simple the configuration process is.

This first batch covers: PHP (MP4, OGV), Django with Flup (MP4, OGV), Django with uWSGI (MP4, OGV), Ruby on Rails (MP4, OGV), Wordpress (MP4, OGV), Video Streaming (MP4, OGV), and a General Introduction (MP4, OGV).

I have to be honest here, I find Cherokee is harder to configure than any of the servers which rely on human-edited configuration files. I've tried to like Cherokee, honestly, but I find the nomenclature just doesn't work for me. I also found it cumbersome to fire up the server in a special mode so that I can edit its properties.

@Mike: I guess you tested Cherokee expecting it to be an old-school web server on wrapping paper. It is not, and that is a very good thing, actually. :-) The nomenclature may be slightly different, that's right. However, you could think of the change in the wording as a result of the evolution.

I like the ads - and I'm eager to start a more productive life (once I find some time;-)

i have to say also this with the to edit the configuration for cherokee. i am having particular problem with the admin. is it possible to just use the text file. KISS keep it simple sometimes. why does cherokee complain about 2 instances running all the time.

the screencasts that you post are outdated its taking me 2 hours just to get php running. comeon now the other BIG webserver its not this difficult. is good idea not just hang your hat on the admin tool. if you can have other options to configure esp lets say you remotely connected to the server. a text file is for sure lot easier.

please update your screencasts to reflect the current version cause the screencast for PHP configuration are not reflecting the version i had installed 1.0.2 the version in the cast is .99 something not sure but its a big difference since we have to only go by the graphical.

@tajidin: The documentation is there for a reason.
