"Liberating Java" video
Today I've seen the talk "Liberating Java" that Simon gave at Fosdem a few days ago. It's quite interesting, definitely worth watching!
Actually, there are a few points I would like to highlight:
- Did you know that 26% of the software in the Debian repository has been contributed by Sun? :-)
- Java SE is around 6 million lines of code.
- There are a few third party modules in Java class library that need to be replaced by Free Software equivalents. Java 2D font rasterizer seems to be a problem. Hopefully, community will get it solved by this Spring when the class library is finally published under the GPL.
The video is available on the Fosdem 2007 website, it's about 330Mb and OGG/Theora encoded.
